Yves Beaumont
In the work of Yves Beaumont (°1970, Oostende), the sensual, sensitive perception comes to the surface in a very tangible way: it is a design composed of assumptions, the colouring is applied subtly and thoughtfully, in an attempt to transcend reality – “his” reality. Paintings and drawings of Beaumont frequently refer to a minimalist pictorial thought process: it is an ongoing search from figuration to its poetic transformation. The mystery radiating from a work of art is infinitely more interesting than any story that may be woven around it: that which can enthral in its vulnerability and incompleteness, the manner in which the painter can circumvent simple aestheticism, and the way in which things only take their form by being painted.
