Aboubakry Sow est docteur en sciences politiques et sociales, ethnomusicologue, ingénieur de recherche au LLACAN/CNRS sur le projet Emergences-Ville de Paris/EcoSen, consacré au patrimoine poétique chanté de la vallée du Fleuve Sénégal (avec le soutien de la chaire UNESCO Fleuves et patrimoines). http://llacan.vjf.cnrs.fr/p_sow.php

Il mène un terrain "multi-situé" de Belgique, Mauritanie, France, Mali, Burkina Fasso, USA, Sénégal, Tunisie, Gambie, Guinée, etc.

"Formé entre la Mauritanie, la Tunisie, la France et la Belgique, Aboubakry Sow dit Njaparta Sow présente un parcours atypique. Après des études à l’Université de Nouakchott en Mauritanie, Aboubakry Sow obtient un DEA en philosophie à l’Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis en 2000. En vue de réaliser sa thèse en anthropologie, il complète sa formation dans cette discipline à l’Université de Liège et en ethnomusicologie à l’Université de Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense. Mettant sa carrière de musicien entre parenthèses, il relève le défi d’étudier son village d’origine en s’intéressant au rôle de la musique et de la relation à plaisanterie – une forme de relation codifiée – à Djéwol, un village haalpular et soninké de Mauritanie. Pour ce faire, il se penche sur trois figures centrales de la vie sociale, celle des coolooji (contestataires sociaux), celles des ñeeñɓe (médiateurs sociaux) et celles des mbiruuji (lutteurs) dont il analyse les rôles, statuts et places au village, mais également en milieu urbain et sur le net.
Objet classique par excellence, la relation à plaisanterie est revisitée par Aboubakry Sow dans son articulation avec la musique et dans ses multiples déclinaisons dynamiques et contemporaines. La question centrale qui est posée est celle de la production et de la reproduction sociale, comme des remises en cause de l’ordre établi, par le biais de mécanismes complexes dans une région et auprès d’acteurs peu étudiés jusque-là.
Au carrefour de l’anthropologie de la parenté et de l’anthropologie de la musique, Aboubakry Sow propose une approche novatrice qui allie ethnographie « classique », convocation réflexive de son enfance et de sa jeunesse et utilisation de ses multiples statuts (musicien, peul, noble, migrant, etc.) comme outil heuristique. Au-delà, c’est la teneur éminemment politique d’une institution incarnée socialement et musicalement dont il contribue à renouveler l’étude, l’on entend, à peine voilé, un plaidoyer pour la liberté d’expression sous toutes ses formes dans une région et à une époque troublées.
Entre recherche et musique, sa guitare et sa thèse sous le bras, Aboubakry Sow va poursuivre sa route de citoyen-chercheur-musicien du monde …"

At the crossroads of anthropology of kinship and anthropology of music, Aboubakry Sow proposes an innovative approach that combines "classical" ethnography, reflexive convocation of his childhood and his youth and use of its multiple statuses (musician, Peul , noble, migrant, etc.) as a heuristic tool. Beyond that, it is the eminently political content of an institution incarnated socially and musically which it contributes to renew the study, one hears, thinly veiled, a plea for the freedom of expression in all its forms in a region and at a time troubled.
Between research and music, his guitar and thesis under his arm, Aboubakry Sow will continue his journey as citizen-researcher-musician of the world ... "
